Brands sometimes issue recalls for their vehicles when they identify a problem that arises from manufacturing and cannot be resolved by users. The recalled vehicles are returned to the manufacturer, where necessary adjustments are made before returning them to the owners. The latest recall has been initiated by Mercedes-Benz.
Thousands of Mercedes-Benz EQS vehicles are being recalled
According to announcements from the China State Market Regulation Administration (SAMR), Mercedes-Benz has decided to recall more than 3,000 fully electric car models sold in China. The German manufacturer will initiate this recall process for two different vehicle models sold in China.
The first recall pertains to 2,324 fully electric EQS sedans imported to China. A software issue in the electric drive module could cause it to become inactive, leading to power loss and potentially increasing the risk of accidents.
According to the recall notice, the affected vehicles were manufactured between June 14, 2021, and July 8, 2022. The update following the recall will be performed free of charge at the company’s authorized dealerships.
The second recall involves 1,051 imported EQS sedan models produced between June 14, 2021, and February 16, 2022. The reason for this recall is the failure to notify the user when there’s a high-voltage issue with the battery. The German automaker will update the battery management system’s software through its local dealership network to resolve the issue.
Last month, Mercedes-Benz also recalled over 30,000 imported S-Class and EQS vehicles in China due to an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) software issue. In June, the company also invited owners of EQE, EQS, and EQS SUV models in the United States to authorized service centers for updates due to a similar problem.
Mercedes-Benz has recently been frequently associated with recall operations. Issues with the electric vehicles that the company heavily invested in might raise concerns among customers.
